2008: Dress for Success:
Dress
for Success is an organization that helps women get back into the workplace by
providing them with an ENTIRE outfit appropriate for going out on interviews.
Once they get a job, the women can come back and get a week’s worth of
professional attire.
The women that come to this organization for help normally have had a
setback of some sort, either personal or financial or both.
Sharefax
will be collecting new
or gently used professional shoes, handbags, jewelry, scarves as well as
unopened make-up, unopened hosiery and Payless gift cards.

April: CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH
Sharefax has decided to take a
stand on child abuse and neglect. We
are giving out information that will educate our members about child abuse and
neglect. They will be able to learn
how to recognize child abuse and how to handle a child abuse situation.
The national average of abused children is 12.3 per 1,000 children and Ohio’s average is currently 17.4 per 1,000 children, which earns
Ohio a ranking of ninth in the nation.
Between
1998 and 2002, the number of abused and neglected children doubled from 24,998
to 50,140 in Ohio. Unfortunately, any child can fall
victim to child abuse and neglect. Therefore,
it is important for everyone to be educated about child abuse and neglect and to
make sure that it is taken seriously. There
are four types of child maltreatment:
- Neglect is the failure to act on the behalf of
a child and comes in three different categories: physical, emotional, and
educational.
- Physical abuse is injury to a child that is
not an accident.
- Sexual abuse is any act of a sexual nature
upon or with a child.
- Emotional abuse is consistent attitudes or
acts that interfere with the psychological and social development of a
child.
Statistics
- One
in four girls will be sexually abused before the age of 18.
- One
is six boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18.
- Of
the violent juvenile and adult prisoners across the nation, 80% of them were
raised in violent homes.
- Survivors
of abuse are six times more likely to become abusive parents.
- The
repetition of a grade is 25 times more likely to happen to an abused child.
- Of
the high school dropouts across the nation, 25% of them have a history of
abuse in their families.
- 45%
of abused children become adult alcoholics.
Sharefax wants to help those in the community that might be victims of child
abuse or neglect. f you think that
someone you know is a victim then please do not hesitate to call the police or a
child abuse hotline.
