Sharefax Credit Union Recognizes Teachers
For Immediate Release: Friday, May 31, 2024, Cincinnati, Ohio –
In honor of teacher appreciation week, Sharefax Credit Union took nominations for teachers from around the Cincinnati area to honor and recognize the lasting contributions they make to the lives of their students. Our six winners received a gift bag of goodies and a mini grant of $200 to be used to support their classroom and students.
Below are some of the comments about our winners from parents, students, and colleagues:
Mrs. Francesca Bownas-Rayburn, Walnut Hills High School, English 9-12th grades: Her passion for teaching spills over into every area of her life. She is the first one to step up and volunteer at ANY school, not just where she teaches. Her students love her and trust that she will provide the guidance they need for the next stage of her life. She’s an amazing teacher and an amazing human being. Everyone who meets her loves her!
Mrs. Karen Green, Williamsburg Elementary, Music K-5: She is dedicated to her profession, always devoted to her music students. My three granddaughters have all had her as a teacher. During the school year the choir gives concerts, and the children are eager to participate. Ms. Greene would put the mini grant to good use. She inspires the children, and they love her.
Mrs. Penelope “Penny” Harris, Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center, Art – All Ages: For years Penny has sent out an irresistible appeal to her friends for books for her students to read in their spare time. Everyone is so excited to send whatever Penny needs for the kids she tough loves so much. Sometimes we send money for art supplies because she is determined to develop skills that will serve them well in the real world of the future. Personally, I have sent money for supplies, books for a specific child’s grade level and two sewing machines. She started a whole sewing program that boys and girls participate in. She applies for grants and builds the art room into a resource for bringing out abilities that will be needed for a responsible and productive life. Besides her job at the Juvenile Detention Center, she volunteers in at least two other programs for vulnerable children.
Mr. Aaron Royer, Batavia Middle School, Language Arts 6-7th grades: Aaron is a fabulous teacher! As a co-worker and friend, I see Aaron work tirelessly every day to meet the needs of our students and community. Aaron is a positive role model for our students. I have seen him mentor and make learning attainable to all students regardless of the costs and effort it requires. I have seen him innumerable times cover these expenses of teaching on his own accord. His energy and enthusiasm for the art of teaching is second to none. I think the art of teaching is more than just conveying information, rather, great teachers like Aaron take their students on a journey that lasts a lifetime. I can think of no one more deserving of this than him!
Mrs. Megan Trueman, Mulberry Elementary, 1st grade: Mrs. Trueman is a fantastic teacher. She keeps the kids engaged and my daughter loves going to school to see her. She keeps prizes in the classroom for when the students are good. She will show up to their sporting events outside of school to cheer them on. She truly cares about her students and loves to hear about their time outside of school and makes learning fun for them. I can only imagine the fun things she would dream up to do with the students with the grant money.
Mrs. Samantha Goodlett, Woodland Elementary, Math 5th grade: I am nominating Samantha because I see the differences that she is making in these children! She has had some troubled students, and she makes sure they know that they can come to her for anything and anytime! Some have. She makes sure that the parents know they can do the same. She has had parents call her on weekends and even at 3 in morning (parent on 3rd shift) I have seen her use her paycheck for clothing for kids. Also, if she knows a family is struggling, she will buy food to make sure they have something to eat during breaks. She is an amazing teacher!
Congratulate to our winners and all nominees!
