Sharefax Credit Union announces recipients of the 2023 Donald Jeffers Scholarships

For Immediate ReleaseMonday April 24, 2023 – Cincinnati, Ohio – Sharefax Credit Union is proud to announce the winners of the 2023 Donald Jeffers Scholarships. Jason Keith was awarded a $2,000 scholarship award. Miya Moore and Colton Ziegler were awarded $1,000 awards.

Jason Keith

Jason Keith is currently a student at University of Cincinnati College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning pursuing a degree in Urban Planning and concentrated interests in Historical Preservation. Jason believes credit unions strive to improve the quality of life for those in need of financial services. Credit unions are smaller and able to create trusting long-lasting relationships with their members. He also stated that credit unions offer the same services just with a more personal touch. In his essay, he suggested having a credit union branch on the campus of local universities and colleges. He also stated that credit unions could partner with student government and residence halls to offer financial classes, events, discussions, and webinars. Jason is actively involved in numerous organizations on campus while working part-time and taking a full course load at UC.

Miya Moore

Miya Moore is a freshmen at Denison University and a graduate of Lebanon High School. Miya believes the biggest benefit that credit unions provide is friendly service to its members. The staff takes their time and gets to know the members and assists with their needs. She stated that being federally insured is very important. Credit Unions provide a sense of community, and this sets them apart from banks. In her essay, Miya discussed that as a college student, every single dollar counts. She expressed it is important to help her peers and remove the clique of the “broke college student.” She would communicate the financial tips and lessons that she has learned to her friends to help them form better habits of saving and spending. Miya is pursuing a double major in Journalism and Communications.

Colton Ziegler

Colton Ziegler is a senior at Turpin High School. Colton believes there are multiple different reasons why credit unions have the upper hand against national banks including being a community not for profit organization and offering better rates for savings and loans. Colton wrote about how credit unions can provide services to students including loans for school expenses. He recently convinced his friend to open an account to get lower rates at a community family friendly credit union. He stated that credit unions strive to protect their members from scams and fraud. He was impressed how hard they work to keep members’ money safe and secure. Colton plans to major in Psychology and Sports Management at Cedarville University.

Sharefax Credit Union offers the annual scholarship to graduating seniors and college students as a tribute to the late Donald Jeffers, former Sharefax employee. Jeffers worked as the Branch Manager of the Evendale office prior to his death. Sharefax is proud to honor his memory with this scholarship as a way to support our student members.
